New 4-track EP ‘Sound Bites’ coming soon!

Following on from September’s exceptionally well received debut single ‘Faith’, Paul is set to release the 4-track EP ‘Sound Bites’ before the end of the year!

This scintillating soundscape is set to give listeners a sonic core-shaker with four awe-inspiring new and original songs.

Keeping the ‘Faith’

Kicking off the EP is ‘Faith’, a rich and lush guitar laden track that’s very new, and yet it sounds almost familiar. In keeping with Paul’s penchant for ear-catching melody combined with substantive lyrical musings, and the production prowess of Charlie Fowler, ‘Faith’ acclimatises your audio receptors in preparation for what’s to come. ‘Faith’ is not what it seems either - it’s not about ‘faith’ per se but it does pose questions about what it actually is. Whether inside of you, outside of you or all around you, make faith what you will is the clarion call.

It’s the ‘Real Deal’

Next up, ‘Real Deal’ launches with a relatively conventional rock/pop stomp yet its perfectly choreographed arrangement serves up different sonic textures giving the listener much to absorb and contemplate. It charts the narrative of ‘city-types’ who tread stockbroker trading floors et al to make fast cash before burning the candle as they head for bars and clubs in search of alcohol, drug and sexually infused gratifications, only for the narrator - who’s emerged from such a past existence - to suggest that in time a more meaningful existence will assume control. It’s riffy, catchy and engaging with multi-layered vocals on the choruses and stabbed guitars punctuated with synthesisers that push their way in for an eyebrow raising surprise!

This is Why

Momentum continues with the brand new, ‘Why Oh Why? Replacing the originally scheduled complexity that is ‘Rain Down My Window Pane’ - a track that is far along the production schedule but now earmarked for the follow up LP - ‘Why Oh Why?’ is literally a sonic punch in the face. It’s hard, fast and angry and yet, Paul still manages to preserve a melodic thrust that forces you to recount the tune long after it’s finished.

At just 2 mins 55, ‘Why Oh Why?’ is short in length but not in force, style or meaning. Penned following the shocking murder of MP David Amess. ‘Why Oh Why?’ is self-explanatory as a title, yet it has a clear message at its heart for the perpetrators of such atrocities. ‘You can snuff me out with the cut of a knife, but NOT in the name of the books you recite.’ is the nub of the message. It also serves to remind us that all shades of God denounce and despise terrorists, as it poses the question. ‘Why oh Why, why did He die? To pitch all our brothers against sisters?’

Tearing it up

Last up, but by no means concluding ‘Sound Bites’ quietly, ‘Tear It Down’ bursts into earshot to provide a climatic finale. With tracks on the EP chosen to announce Paul’s solo entrance onto the music scene unequivocally, this track doesn’t fail to impress. Peppered with riff drenched guitars and momentous synths that give it a darkened edge and passionate force, melodically and vocally ‘Tear It Down’ strikes a more anthemic chord doused in varying degrees of anxiety and elation.

Confronting a topic that’s very much in the spotlight, ‘Tear It Down’ grapples with mental health and how it gets you in its grip, assumes control and arrives without warning to take you down, ‘consuming your senses like a meal’. Like ‘a long lost friend’ it returns as you try to appear ‘normal’ to naked eyes without any external revelation that might inflict judgement. Searing guitars are a pointing reference to anguish and mental chaos as it climaxes with an elevatory drum solo crafted by Ben Gordelier in advance of claiming victory by bringing ‘it’ down to turn your life around again…until the next time perhaps!

‘Sound Bites’ is coming out on all major digital platforms at a date to be confirmed.
